The main differences

FileInvite and idutax solve the same core problem — getting clients to send files without the friction of email. The client experience on both platforms is similar: a link, a checklist, an upload interface. For straightforward document collection, FileInvite works.

The gap opens up when you look at what comes bundled versus what requires an additional subscription or workaround.

E-signature. FileInvite does not include built-in e-signature. If your workflow involves sending engagement letters or authorization forms alongside document requests — which is standard for most accounting firms — you'd need a separate tool. idutax includes e-signature as part of the platform.

Accounting templates. FileInvite uses general-purpose templates. idutax ships with pre-built checklists for T1 and T2 returns (Canada), 1040 and 1120 (US), SA100 and CT600 (UK), and ITR and BAS (Australia). For most accountants, this means the first request can go out on the same day as signup.

Compliance. For firms with Canadian clients, PIPEDA compliance requires being able to document what was received, when, and by whom. idutax keeps a tamper-evident log of all document activity and lets you export it. FileInvite does not offer this.
